Transcription & Transit Monday, Aug. 25, 2008 - 1:08 a.m. Yesterday around noon, when we got up, John and I were able to clear off the futon to where it looked like a futon. The blue light is working; I actually felt like cleaning things. Neat stacks abound, but actually having a feeling and an incentive and a sense of accomplishment in dealing with them? That's been a rare feeling since spring, for a myriad of reasons. But wow, it's returned. A small thing, but a big thing! Thanks to John for digging in and getting so much done! --- Had a pleasant and thoughtful visit with Minstrelite yeterday afternoon, whose music transcription business is coming in handy for him. So many artists, including Elton John and Lionel Ritchie among others, have never learned to read substantial amounts of music if any, and they depend on their transcriptionists to score their songs for them. And there's doubtless lots and lots of people on the charts right now who have never physically written down a dot with a stick and a flag on a stave in their lives. MIDI has been to written music what typewriters have been to handwriting. --- The Outside Lands festival wasn't too terribly thumpy, and John, who braved the neighborhood roads once on Saturday and once on Sunday, says it wasn't too terribly trafficjammy, either. In the future, I'd like to see them try and integrate some kind of evidence that people arrived by public transit, perhaps in the form of a really cool freebie at the door or something. Oh well. I'll fix this when I'm king of the world. --- Okay, done. Have a good Monday! ---
